Privacy

This website doesn’t collect personal data. We never ask for your email or your real name, and we don’t store IP addresses, device details or your location. You can use the whole site without a card, and if you get one, its name is made up at random by the site: Rin picks it for you.

What stays on your device

Your progress (levels, cards, stamps, collection, streak) and a few preferences (sound, rōmaji hints, who turns the gachapon crank) are saved in your browser’s local storage. If you have a card, your browser also keeps a sign-in key for it, never your secret phrase. The site keeps a copy of its own files too, so it works offline. You can export, import or erase your progress any time from Me → Settings, or by clearing this site’s data in your browser. This storage is strictly necessary for the service you ask for, so it doesn’t need a consent banner, and the site uses no cookies.

Your card (optional)

A card saves your progress on our server so you can carry on from any phone or computer. For each card we store only: its name (made up by the site, like FluffyMikan-117), a check code made from your secret phrase, your progress (the same data you see in Me), a revision number, and the dates it was created and last saved.

Your four secret words never leave your device. Your browser turns them into a key, and the server seals that key with a secret of its own before storing it, so the stored code can’t be turned back into your words. To stop guessing, a card pauses for 15 minutes after 10 wrong tries in a row; that counter is kept with the card and nothing else. The data lives in Cloudflare D1, a database stored in the European Union.

There’s no email, so there’s no reset: if you lose your access card and your words, nobody can open the card again, not even us. You can delete it any time in Me → Settings → Delete my card: it’s removed from our server at once. Our database provider keeps automatic recovery copies for up to 7 days, and after that it’s gone for good.

Statistics

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page views. It uses no cookies and stores nothing on your device, and we only see aggregated numbers (for example, how many people visited the kana charts). We never track a specific person.

Hosting

The site is served by Cloudflare, Inc. Like any hosting provider, Cloudflare handles the technical connection data needed to deliver pages and protect the site from attacks (such as your IP address), under its own privacy policy. We don’t keep any of it.

YouTube videos

Videos only load when you press play, from youtube-nocookie.com. From that moment, Google’s privacy policy applies, and YouTube may store data on your device and show its own ads.

Your rights

Since nothing we keep identifies you, you’re in control without asking anyone: export your progress, erase it or delete your card from Me → Settings. For anything else, write to hello@rinandtadashi.com. You can also contact the Spanish Data Protection Agency (aepd.es).
